The Virtue of Abstaining from Sin

People reach the beautiful rank of manifestation of God's grace when they abstain from doing deeds, behaviors, thoughts, feelings, words, and anything in religion that is considered a sin in the sight of God. In a brief narration, Imam Zaman (may God hasten his reappearance) said: Our Shia Muslims reach God's beautiful and glorious fulfillment when they avoid sins that have been forbidden. (Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 53, p. 177)

Interpretation and Message of the Brief Narration:

• Distance from sin and abstaining from it leads people to reach the good consequences and blessedness that God has destined for them.
• Performing strong and developed actions of abstaining from sin leads a person to the rank and station of the manifestation of God's grace.
• It is this human being who, through diligent abstention from sin and piety, achieves growth and exaltation.
• The growth of abstention from sin and piety is from the high manifestations of God, which causes a person to ascend to the rank of the manifestation of God's beautiful grace.
• Those people who reflect the beauties of God's grace are those who, with care, awareness, and foresight, abstain from what is sinful, and therefore become the manifestation of God's beautiful grace.
